testing that a large drive works all the way!
The place to look is with the bios flashes, see if they say anything about support for large hard drives. HP usually does list that sort of thing. Well this computer is pretty old. The only bios updates didn't refer to drive size limitations. True, tho you would expect an update if it had a problem with drives over

7Gig partition shows only 2Gig even w/ large drive support
So, somewhere between the K7S5A, Win2k, and large drives (somewhere larger than 80G), there are problems. I've put the 80G back in for now. I'll use the 100G in the external USB case and use it for backup. If I find a fix for the BSOD somewhere down the road, I can always switch them. Thanks for all the thoughts

Time to defrag a large drive
When partitioning a large drive (80 gigabyte) are there any principles to apply to ensure optimum performance for a general file system (ie not a file system consisting of large A/V files)? In particular, I'm thinking about partition sizes that are regular multiples of standard base units.

Large drive problem with 2.0.36
Here are my questions: 1. Would a Controller card be worthwhile with an ISA MB? 2. If I install the 1.6G as master and partition it with partitions <528MB, would I still have to use a disk drive overlay like EZ drive (I'm sure my system BIOS does not have large drive support)? -- Russ Valentine russ...@iquest.net.

You might want to reformat that to NTFS so you can hold large files. (FAT32 is limited to 2gig.) Try 4GB and you'd be correct. <snip> Now, having said that, the FAT32 that are on those big drives are not regular FAT32. Of course they are. XP can't format a large drive as FAT32 (I don't know about Vista).
